8 Week Classes - FIGURE DRAWING for beginners

Have you always wanted to draw from the model but don’t know where to start? This course will give you the vocabulary to approach figure drawing in a fun and energized atmosphere. We’ll cover the fundamentals of figure drawing—gesture, contour, mass, proportion, anatomy—working from a live model and from weekly sketchbook assignments. No experience necessary! Each class builds upon and reinforces the skills learned in the prior session, but here is an overview of some of the key skills we’ll be covering week to week.

Class 1: Gesture—capturing a motion quickly. Getting the energy of a pose

Class 2: Contour—Seeing with a pencil. Slow and quick contour drawings.

Class 3: Mass—Seeing the model in 3 dimensions. Getting a sense of weight in your drawings. Basics of shading and describing form.

Class 4: Shading—the form in space and on the page. Getting a sense of composition.

Class 5: Basics of anatomy—looking for the major shapes in the body; understanding the key skeletal/muscular forms

Class 6: Proportion—Figures in relation to each other and the environment
